Working to foster responsible lunar exploration through inclusive dialogue and collaborative policy development.
Open Lunar Impact
The Moon Dialogs served as an influential forum for advancing credible, actionable mechanisms to facilitate lunar coordination, policies, norms, and laws. By leveraging voluntary frameworks and fostering cross-sector, international collaboration, the initiative provided a foundation for addressing governance and coordination on the lunar surface.
The Moon Dialogs was a partnership started in 2019 focused on exploring governance and coordination mechanisms for lunar activities. Convened by organizations and researchers, it examined voluntary, multilateral approaches to norms, economic arrangements, and cooperative ecosystems. The project aimed to develop mechanisms that support the coordination of lunar activities through policy and legal frameworks.
About the Need
As lunar exploration expanded, there was a clear need for forums to address the societal, environmental, and governance implications of activity on the Moon.
About the Solution
The Moon Dialogs provided a structured environment to foster dialogue among diverse stakeholders, focusing on governance, norms, and economic frameworks for lunar activities. It facilitated discussions that supported socially responsible and cooperative approaches to lunar exploration. A key output of the initiative was the Lunar Policy Handbook, designed to guide stakeholders in navigating the evolving landscape of lunar governance.
